Article~Welcome back oddly shaped courgettes, ugly parsnips and less than perfect carrots!

In an attempt to curb food prices, the EU is scraping its regulations on the acceptable size and shape of 26 types of fruit and vegetable. According to The Telegraph, "An estimated 20 per cent of the British harvest is thrown away to comply with the EU regulations, rules which have been calculated to add as much as 40 per cent to the price of some vegetables, such as carrots."

"Still having to conform are apples, pears, citrus fruit, strawberries and tomatoes. Bananas will remain subject to a different set of rules which stipulate, among other things, that they must be at least 14cm long and 27mm thick in the middle."(Source: The Times)

With food waste set to soar over the Festive Season, The Green Buzz focuses on Food this November.

Our Eco Celeb this month looks at James Bond and his eco villain.

Article~At a time when the economy is slowing down some are questioning the effects it will have on the organic and fairtrade movements. The meltdown of the banking system and financial markets is just another reminder of the need for a sustainable economy. Instead of following a strategy of short-term gains and growth at all costs we should aim to build a sustainable economy which supports the needs of our ever expanding population. The current financial crisis is painful to many, yet as individual consumers it is imperative we keep our commitment to buying organic and fairtrade products consuming less but better.

In the midst of all the doom and gloom we felt the need for some positivity. This month "The Green Buzz" focuses on how the actions and perseverance of individual people can generate change and make a difference in other people's lives.

Our Light Green article looks at Jungle Berry, a brand of ethical jewellery launched at By Nature this month, and their work with local communities in the Amazon.

Our Dark Green article takes inspiration from Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai and her work with the Green Belt Movement.

Our Eco Celeb feature looks at Brad Pitt's "Make it Right" campaign in New Orleans.

Don’t miss this month’s competition for a chance to win a Tatty Bumpkin Soft Toy Cat.

Are the days of cheap energy over?

If industry insiders are correct and the average energy bill hits £1,467 by the end of 2008, spending on energy will soon account for 5% of the average household's net income, according to Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at price comparison website uSwitch.com. (Source: Guardian)

If you believe the energy companies, then rising costs of gas and electricity wholesale prices and crude oil prices are to blame. However the situation is not that bad for everyone, apparently. Oil giant Exxon Mobil has just announced an $11.68 billion profit between April and June 2008 (the highest quarterly profit by a US company) and British Gas parent, Centrica, reported this week higher than expected profits of £992m.

Feeling the pinch? Well you are not alone! So this month our newsletter focuses on ways you can save on energy costs. Our first article focuses on Greener Driving and explains how what you drive and how you drive can save you money. Our second article looks at ways you can save on gas and electricity.

With all the doom and gloom going around we thought we should do our bit to help. We are extending our Summer Sale so you can take advantage of bargain prices on hundreds of products. Stocks are limited so hurry and don’t miss this month’s competition for a chance to win a Solar Mate Secure Lighting Kit.

With the sun shining and Summer around the corner it seems an appropriate time to tackle the subject of travel. Our passion for travel took my husband and I to far away places where we always enjoyed taking time to experience local cultures and to talk to local people. The stories we heard and the things we saw during our travels made us realise that the world we loved was threatened. It was changing dramatically and so fast that the people we were meeting could actually tell us stories that had happened in their lifetimes from melting glaciers, bleached coral reefs to insects and animals moving to higher altitudes in rainforests.

Over the past few years it has become increasingly apparent that global warming was to blame and that the expansion of air travel was contributing to the warming of the planet. Sadly it is ironic that the impact of travelling might end up destroying the places we all love to visit!

In our Light Green article, Destination UK, The Buzz spoke to Linda Moss, Alastair Sawday and Laura Burgess on what eco and responsible travel means to them and how we can enjoy travelling closer to home.

Our Dark Green feature might inspire you to kick off the flying habit and take the "No Flight Pledge".

Just in time for Summer we have some new ranges available: Bill Brown's Bag and Travel Accessories, Arbor Vetum's reclaimed teak garden furniture and Solar's Technology garden lights, solar charges and solar lighting kits.

Do not miss our competition for a chance to win the perfect Summer accessory: a Bill Brown's picnic bag!
